Boys Over Flowers Episode 1 Story Synopsis

Geum Jan-Di (played by Koo Hye-seon) hails from a poor family running a Dry Cleaning business. She reaches the prestigious Shinhwa High School attended by the scions of the wealthiest families in South Korea to deliver a student's dry cleaning. She there saves the life of Lee Min Ha ,a heavily bullied student by a gang of four known as F4 (Flower Four Boys). The media exposes the news of the bullying within the school and Jan-di’s heroic deed, leading the public to go against the Shinhwa Group. To turn the negative publicity into positive, President Kang Hee Soo sends her PA Jung Sang Rok to Jan-Di’s house with the offer of swimming scholarship to study in the school. Jan-di declines the scholarship, but her family forces her to attend the school to save tuition money.
On her first day at Shinwa High, Geum Jan-Di comes face to face with the F4 members (F4 leader Gu Jun-pyo, Yoon Ji-hoo, So Yi-jeong and Song Woo-bin). She is surprised by the adoration of the students for these richest and most powerful kids of the School who terrorize weaker students those they do not like for fun. Jan-di sees F4 leader Jun-Pyo pouring tomato juice on a male student. Instead of being impressed by the F4 members who reign the entire school like the other students of the school, Jan-di dislikes them instantly and expresses her anger by talking to herself. Jan-di earns the hatred of the trio girls Ginger (Choi Jin Hee), Sunny (Park Sun Ja) and Miranda (Lee Mi Sook) who hear her talking against their idols.
After reaching home from School, Jan-di watches as her Brother Geum Kang San makes a background check on the F4 members on the internet. He tells her that Song Woo Bin a consortium magnate successor with suspected underworld connections. Geum Kang San tells his sister that F4 member So Yi Jung is an acclaimed master ceramic potter and one of the few recipients to be Ambassador of Fine Arts from the UNESCO. He further adds that The Woo Song Museum belong to So Yi Jung’s family. Geum Kang San reveals that Yoon Ji Hoo (whom Jan-di asked for directions) is the grandson of President Yoon Suk Rong and that his parents died in a Car accident when Yoon Ji Hoo was 5 years old. Geum Kang San then makes a search for Goo Joon Pyo and shows Jun-Pyo featured on the Cover page of Asia Borbes Magazine as World’s Youngest Billionaire. He tells her that he is the F4 Leader and the heir apparent of the renowned Shinhwa Group. Jan-di is amazed and shocked as to how powerful the F4 .
The next day Jan-di goes to the top floor of the school building and showers abuses at the F4 and declares that the day she needs to address them as Senior she will jump from the roof top. She is distracted by the sound of someones yawning and Ji Hoo comes in front of her. Jan-di apologizes telling that she did not know that anyone was near by. Ji-Hoo asks her if it is true that she will jump from the roof top. He further embarrasses her telling that he heard every word she spoke including calling the F4 flies and goes from there. The trio girls mock at Jan-di seeing her lunch box. However, Oh Min Ji goes near her and asks if she can taste Jan-di’s food becoming her first friend at Shinhwa High. Jan-di tells about F4 and Oh-Minji to Chu Ga Eul who is her friend since kindergarten and works with her at a Porridge shop. She tells her that she plans to stay invisible to the F4 as she does not want any trouble till she graduates from the school. Chu Ga Eul tells her that doing like that would be out of character for the fighter and justice girl Jan-di she knows. Jan-di tells her that she is left with no choice as she can get expelled from school if she created nuisance and then beaten to death by her mother.
The next day, Jan-di witnesses Jun-Pyo shoving a cake on his female fan’s face. She confronts him telling that he could have just accepted it keeping in consideration the feelings of the person who made it. However, Jun-Pyo does not take any notice of Jan-di and ignores her. Ji-Hoo is amused and passes her smiling. Jan-di takes her frustration out by vigorously swimming at the school swimming pool. After that, she enjoys girl time with friend Oh Min-ji eating ice cream. Oh Min-ji accidentally spills on Jun-Pyo’s costly shoes and he asks her to lice the ice cream off his shoes. Jan-di confronts Jun-Pyo again. She defends her friend and try to reason with him. Jun-Pyo asks Jan-di to prove her friendship by licking the ice cream instead for her friend. He tells her that if she does so, he will treat the matter as if it never happened. Jan-di bends down and instead of licking the ice cream on Jun-Pyo’s shoes, shoves the ice cream cone she was holding in her hand to his face. He falls down and Jan-di throws money on him for Dry cleaning charges for his jacket. Further, she sticks her shop sticker on his forehead leaving Jun-Pyo shocked. However, his friends are astonished and amused by the retaliation of Jan-di against Goo Joon Pyo. They suppress their smiles while Yoon Ji Hoo looks with admiration at Geum Jan-Di.
Jun-Pyo feels humiliated by what happened and plots against Jan-di. He encourages students to bully her so that she comes and apologize to him. Geum Jan-Di gets the dreaded 'F4 red card' and becomes the target of Students bullying. Students harass her and throw flour and egg on her. The F4 ( Ji-Hoo is absent) sees the recording of the bullying. Jun-Pyo tells his friends that he will not end the harassment till Jan-di kneels and begs in front of him. His friends places bets on Jan-di that she will last only for 3 days or maximum one week. Instead of going to Jun-Pyo, she goes to the school building top floor and showers abuses at the F4. Yoon Ji-hoo wipes the mess from her face and clothes with his hand kerchief. Jan-di develops a crush for Yoo Ji-Hoo.
Jan-di heads to the Swimming Pool and finds it laced with trash. JunPyo looks at the recording and laughs. So Yi Jung realizes that it’s been over a week and Song Woo Bin has lost the bet as it’s more than a week since Jan-di is in school. He gives Song Wong Bin and asks him to enter the girls numbers he promised. He remarks that Jan-di is the only person who has stood against the F4. Jun Pyo tells them that she has survived only because he is going easy on her. Geum Jan Di clears the trash out of the swimming pool and heads to the dressing room.
